London Eye

When I told my children I was going to London, they all begged me to ride the London Eye. Given my dislike of heights, enclosed spaces, and ferris wheels I gave them a big no! But I did get some pictures, so kids, these are for you!

The Motherlandā€¦

I couldn’t really think of the right words for this post title because nothing could really capture my excitement right now. While it might look like I am busy blogging away in Maryland, I am actually in England.

Can I get a WOOT?

My husband told asked me two weeks ago if I wanted to accompany him on his next business trip. He had already arranged for our children to be taken care of and made most of the arrangements. Thanks to his extremely frugal living while on all his other trips, my part of the trip was almost paid for with his per diem.

I have been here for two days and it is more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. I wish I was a better photographer, so my pictures could reflect the beauty of this area. It is breathtaking at times, and I am completely enamored by the old buildings and of course the accent. Below is a slide show of my first two days.

I have many stories to tell already, but for now I will share my photos. If you click through you can read descriptions for some of the photographs.

What Makes Me Happy

This week’s You Capture theme is what makes you happy. Since my blog is all about being happy, this was pretty easy for me. But as Cora turns 8 months old this week (can you believe it???), I am reflecting on how happy I am, that even though when I met her she looked like this…

Today she looks like this…

Stork Craft Crib Recall

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall of 1.2 million drop side Stork Craft cribs due to an entrapment and suffocation hazard. I know I have a lot of mom’s with babies/ toddlers who read this blog so please check your cribs to see if you have a Stork Craft crib manufactured between 1993-2009.

The Stork Craft website is very slow to load, due to the crib recall, but you can follow them on Twitter. They are not currently tweeting information regarding the recall, but you could tweet a question if the site stays down for an extended period of time.

Please visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission for specifics regarding the Stork Craft Crib recall as well as instructions on how to repair the defective part.

Colonial Williamsburg ~ Real Life

I love You Capture. I love to take photos and I love looking at other people’s photos. I would encourage anyone who loves to take pictures to participate. Each week there is a theme, and this week’s theme is Real Life. I love it because I feel like all my photos are “real.”

Here are a few real life shots from our visit to Colonial Williamsburg. Trip details coming soon.

Cora slept a lot… I think she might be getting sick again. šŸ™

Veterans Day Tribute

It seems fitting I spent the beginning of this week visiting Colonial Williamsburg. Many of the re-enactments detail events leading up to the Revolutionary War. It is sobering to realize the pursuit for independence was not taken lightly, and divided father against brother, friend against friend, and country against country.

Today we honor our veterans. Those who have served, fought, and even paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

Thank you.

Support our Troops

While there are benefits to serving in the US Armed Forces, many of our troops put their lives on the line every day. Soldiers, Sailers, Airmen, Marines, and are serving all over the world, away from loved ones and the comforts of home. They give up many of their freedoms in ensure our freedom.

Not everyone is able to serve in our Armed Forces, but everyone can serve our Armed Forces.

  • Participate in the Holiday Mail for Heroes. (This looks like a great project for schools, scouts or other clubs)
  • Place a yellow ribbons on your car or tie a yellow ribbon around a tree in your front yard.
  • Invite a Single Service Member over to your house for dinner. People are usually pretty good about doing this around the holidays, but they would enjoy a home cooked meal any time of the year.
  • If you know someone who is deployed send them a letter, or a care package. Make sure you check with someone who knows them well to see what they really need.
  • Tell them that you appreciate their service to our country. You might be surprised how little they hear this.
  • If you own or manage a store, give a military discount. Even 10% is appreciated.
  • For families whose loved one is deployed… invite them for dinner, or bring them a meal.
  • Offer to babysit….military families often spend months apart. Mom and Dad would love to have some time alone together.
  • Call…. check up on the families whose loved one is deployed. A lot of times they would love someone to talk to. Don’t think it is a bad time… if it is they just won’t answer the phone.
  • Be a friend… military life can be hard on everyone. There are frequent moves, separations, and other trials. Friends can make all the difference to a military family.
  • Attend a troop homecoming
  • Offer to babysit for the spouse who is on the homefront during the deployment, they could use some quiet moments to themselves.
  • Help the family out by offering to run an errand; return library books, videos, run to the post office, pick up milk, especially if you’re already going there.
  • Pray- for the troops that are abroad, the ones here at home, and the families that support them.
